(BEIJING, September 7) -- The Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) Gymnasium embodies the principles of a "Green Olympics" with the intelligent use of energy conservation, natural resources and efficient management of space.
The BIT Gymnasium will play host to the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Goalball Tournament, running from September 13-16, 2007.
Designers included innovative features in the roof structure to save energy with a "batfish" design and three layers of thermal insulation - double that of a standard athletic facility.
The three layers of thermal insulation also reduces noise from rain falling against the rooftop, creating a soundproof environment, especially during the peak summer rainy reason in Beijing.
The stadium makes full use of natural lighting. Sunshine is drawn into the competition field through windows, offering unobstructed ventilation throughout. The roof has a skylight, which ensures sufficient natural lighting.
The designers stuck to "green" and "energy conservation" concepts, adopting water-conserving, sanitation equipment and energy-conserving lighting fixtures.
