Tianjin women's team rallies to snatch gold

(Beijing, April 20) In the women's final of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 China Club Volleyball Tournament, the Tianjin women's team came from 2-1 down to beat Bayi at the Capital Indoor Stadium this afternoon. Tianjin won the title by a score of 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10).

Tianjin used tight defense and varied plays to win the first set 25-22. Bayi recovered in the second by focusing on block and attack, winning 25-18.

Bayi reached the second technical timeout in the third with a lead of 16-12 and widened the cushion to win 25-19.

The fourth set turned out to be fiercer as the score was Bayi up 8-6 at the first timeout. The army's team maintained the lead to 16-10 at the second TO only to find Tianjin knot the score at 21, and then 23. Two counterattacks lifted Tianjin to a 25-23 win.

Tianjin set the pace early in the final set, 5-2. Bayi called a timeout while trailing 9-5 and the players responded to manage within two, falling 10-8. Tianjin took another timeout to cool down before capturing the gold medal point to win 15-10.
